Why is it okay for a black person to wear a t-shirt that says “life is better black”?

I live in Atlanta, GA which is very diverse. I was at a bowling alley last night that was mostly black and there was a girl with a shirt that said “life is better black” I guess it just frustrates me because if a white person was walking around with a t-shirt that said “life is better white” it would be a huge controversy.

Right or wrong it doesn’t matter if a white person wore that shirt it would cause a huge controversy- it is the way it is. I don’t get it…I live in a smaller area where there are a lot of different races of people…I guess I just look at everyone as people and not black people, white people, mexican people, et cetera. I don’t know how the world is going to reach equality for all if we don’t get out of the segregated mindset and it seems that shirt kind of puts it right out there…interesting.

Princess*J* let me fastforward you into this day and age you don’t have to be black to be oppressed, discriminated against, accused of a crime because you “look” like a suspect, followed around in a store, or any other situation you can think of. As for shouting white pride- I don’t, I shout for equality for every race and culture. It seems to be on the hypocritical side to say that shouting black pride rocks and shouting white pride is oppressive. I don’t know why anyone who seems so determined to be an equal would be defending someone shouting black pride when they should be shouting equality. Don’t worry though in 10 years when whites are the minority- which is fine with me I don’t care, it doesn’t dictate who I am- maybe you can stop complaining about white people. Maybe you should learn to deal with it instead of telling everyone else to.

Why do some people think that being a part of the majority makes life so much better? It doesn’t- no one EVER has said oh well you’re white so you get this and this and this. No in fact they have said oh wow you’re white….yikes, we have to hire a certain number of all races so…this isn’t going to quite work out. I know the history of slavery, I know the history of racism and I know that it totally sucked and it was and is wrong on all levels, but why can’t some people seem to move past that mentality. I have been working full time since I was 15 years old- no one has ever handed me anything I have worked for it all; and quite honestly there isn’t all that much to show for it. Don’t try and tell me that it is better to be in the majority and that it makes life easier. You try walking a mile in my shoes before you try to teach me a lesson on my life!
