38 weeks pregnant. what should i pack for my ‘labor bag’?

this is my first baby and i am clueless as to what i should bring. however, i did look up some stuff online for what i will need to bring, but i am still unsure. here is a list of what i have so far. am i missing anything? thank you in advance!

- my own pillow
- pads
- makeup
- outfit to go home in
- comfy clothes (sweatpants, robe, t-shirt)
- a pen
- 3-4 pairs of undies
- nursing bra
- change for vending machine
- lollipops or lifesavers
- chapstick
- baby book
- pregnancy book
- 1 baby diaper (some hospitals use cloth)
- toothbrush
- shampoo + conditioner
- camera & full battery
- baby’s going home outfit
- washcloths
- list of people to call
- change of clothes for boyfriend
- blanket for baby
- deodorant
- hair brush
- hair clip, hair elastic
- hair mousse
- 2 towels
- nail clippers
- baby wipes
- cellphone and charger
- snacks
- soap
- socks
- laptop?

Pads and underwear I’d honestly leave home. At the hospital they should give you pads and mesh undies. I loved the mesh undies, however if you think you’ll be more comfortable in your own undies go ahead and take them. Not like they take up much room anyway :o )

As far as taking 1 diaper, why? Honestly I don’t see a point in taking just one diaper.

Washcloths you shouldn’t need, you’ll be provided towels and wash cloths by the hospital. Just a tiny FYI, use a brightly colored pillow case on your pillow so it doesn’t get confused with hospital pillows.

Nail clippers is actually a phenominal idea.. make sure to pack a pair of baby clippers or baby emory boards as well. I made the mistake of not packing either and my son ended up scratching his little face up pretty good because the hospital did not provide mits or an emory board to trim his little nails.

Baby wipes is also a great idea. They gave me a box of what looked like tissues and they were baby wipes that you had to wet yourself before changing your baby. It’s difficult to wet them sufficiently while your baby is yelling to be changed and they are pretty rough.

Go ahead and pack your laptop. Should your baby go to the nursery you’re going to have a little time on your hands. I don’t know about anyone else but I as so excited that I couldn’t sleep so I had a lot of time on my hands. During the down time I got to take lots of pics and upload them to facebook to share with my friends and family. We’re a military family stationed 2500 miles from anyone we know, so I never had visitors, so my only way of sharing my little miracle was this way.

If your labor room has an entertainment center, pack a few dvds to keep you entertained. I stayed a total of 4 days (from labor to discharge) in the hospital and only had time (or desire?) to watch tv while in labor.

Buy and pack hard candies, gum or lollipops for labor. Chapstick for dry lips during labor. Slippers or something to walk around in.

Other than that, your list is pretty complete! Good luck and congrats :o )
