What type of thing did people in Australia wear in the 60-70′s?

At school I’m doing a drama performance that’s set in the 60-70′s in the surbanian streets of Melbourne – there sort of like developments and all the immigrants or blue collar families livew there..
And my character is a naive 14-15 year old boy who falls for a girl who is being malested by her step-father and is sort of insane and very insecure about herself but who secretly loves my character.
And I’m just wondering what to wear..
Like hippie stuff like the bell bottom pants and a bright shirt?
Or go for a more blue collar theme – baggy pants, black or blue checkered shirts with white long sleeved undershirts beneath with thongs or inclosed shoes..?
Or am I completly going in the wrong direction..?

Umm…what people usually wore in the 70′s.

Try blue jeans
A checkered, button-up shirt
Sneakers
And medium length hair. Not to shouldrers, kind of like a Beatles cut, but a bit loosened up.
